Hezbollah has confirmed the death of its leader Hassan nazah in an Israeli air strike that was conducted Friday night in Beirut it follows weeks of escalating tension between Israel and Hezbollah with Israel targeting Hezbollah commanders in Beirut the capital of Lebanon and also stepping up its bombing campaign in the south of Lebanon Israel says it has to act to try and weaken Hezbollah militarily once and for all and to push it further back from the border with Israel because Hezbollah has been targeting Israel with a series of Rocket attacks for months now the question is does this lead to retaliation from either Hezbollah or from Iran because Hezbollah is backed by Iran as a proxy group in the region and has Hezbollah been weakened to the point that it cannot retaliate we’ve seen fairly restrained responses so far from Hezbollah and Iran but the death of nazal is a big blow to the organization for decades he turned Hezbollah into a true fighting force he built it up mil militarily he also turned it into a political party in Lebanon and he really worked to knit together Iran’s proxies in the region working with Hamas and also with the houthis he was seen as an icon by his supporters but also very divisive figure inside Lebanon itself and now of course the question is has it been weakened again to the point it can’t retaliate further those fears of a wider War do remain and a war that could pull in Iran it could pull in the US it could have major impact on the global economy
