last year we tragically lost 4,990 lives on our roadways today we’re launching our plan to accelerate vdx deployment v2x our vehicle to everything technology has been around for decades the idea is simple my car communicates with all the other cars around me v2x uses wireless communication like wireless land and 5G cellular technology so what makes these chatty cars so much safer than others the biggest benefit of connected Vehicles is data modern cars are surrounded by cameras and sensors which collect a lot of information but these cameras and sensors have their limits they can’t see through objects they’re limited by distance and bat weather can impact how they function v2x aims to address these shortcomings if the collected information can be shared between the vehicles and the infrastructure around it it should result in much better awareness of potential road hazards to avoid accidents v2x can manage traffic flow and help control car speeds it can also provide priority routes for larger trucks and emergency vehicles to reduce their idling time but there are some major concerns b2x will require some level of location sharing and tracking which many people are not comfortable with an estimated 70% of the vehicles on roads would need to be equipped with v2x to have a 50% chance of effective communication the department of transportation’s 12-year plan is still in its infancy it’s about making smart Investments with our billions of dollars that we’re spending and they’re making a huge bet to achieve their goal of reducing traffic death to zero
