video
play-rounded-fill

Hi everyone, Kevin here. Today, we’re going to look at how you can use Grammarly to improve your writing. Grammarly is an AI powered writing tool that helps you with all parts of your writing from start to finish. You can use it to brainstorm new topics, outline ideas, and also revise and polish your writing. It’s kind of like having your own personal proofreader and editor follow you around anytime you write. And best of all, it’s completely free to get started with. Let’s check this out. To get Grammarly, head to the following website. You can also click on the card in the top right-hand corner, or you could click on the link down below in the description. Once you land on the Grammarly homepage, you can click on the get Grammarly button right in the center of the page, and you can sign up for a free account. With a free account, you get all of the base functionality and you also get 100 AI credits, and in a moment, we’ll look at what you can do with those. It’s really a must have. If you write frequently, I would also recommend checking out a premium account. You get all sorts of advanced functionality. For example, you get full sentence rewrites, tone modification, plagiarism detection, and so many more features. You also get 1000 AI credits per month, and the AI functionality takes your writing to the next level. Thanks to Grammarly for sponsoring this video, if you sign up using the link down below, you’ll get 20% off premium. Once you finish signing up, you’ll land on the main Grammarly account page. Over on the left-hand side, let’s click on apps and here you’ll see all of the different places where you can install the Grammarly app. Basically wherever you happen to write, you’ll also be able to use Grammarly. Right up at the top, you can install Grammarly on Windows or on Mac. This way it’ll pop up when you’re in your favorite applications, like say Outlook, Word, or PowerPoint. You can also add an extension to your web browser, whether you use Edge, Chrome, or Safari. This way you can use it across your favorite websites. You could also use it on your iPhone, your iPad, and your Android, so you can use Grammarly when on the go. I’ve now installed Grammarly on Windows and this way I’ll be able to use it in any Windows application. Here I am in Outlook and I have an email from my boss, Patti Fernandez. It looks like she’s giving an update on how our cookie company is performing, but the one item that caught my eye is right here at the bottom. It looks like she’s looking for volunteers to help plan a morale event this coming Friday. And right here, she says, I’ll remember this at review time. So, what do you think I’m going to do? Of course, I’ll volunteer. Right up on top, I’ll click on the reply button and anytime I click in a text field, I get this overlay from Grammarly that I can use to help compose a message. I always have trouble starting with a message, so it’d be nice to get some help with this. I’ll click on this icon and this opens up Grammarly. This is an AI powered tool that will help you with your communications. Here I have some preset options at the top, but I can also tell it exactly what I would like it to do. And I want to write a message to Patti telling her that I would love to help with the morale event. Over here, I’ll click on go and here we see that it’s working on it. Just like that, I get a nice message that I can start from. I can take this and now make modifications to it. I hope this message finds you well. I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I would love to help with the morale event. And here it goes on. It sounds like a very nice message. In my last performance review, Patti told me that I should be a little more assertive in my communications. Down below, I can further refine this text. I can make it more persuasive. Here I can make it more assertive and I have many other options if I click on more. Let’s try making it more assertive. I’ll click on that and here it’s now working on it. So, I wanted to reach out and let you know that I am eager to help with the morale event. That sounds pretty good. I believe my skills and experience would be valuable addition to the team. It sounds a little bit more assertive. I think this sounds really good, but I could continue making refinements if I would like to, but I think all of this sounds good, so here I’ll click on insert. This has now inserted the text into the email, and this gives me a really good place to start from. As I go through and I tweak this text, here I have the Grammarly overlay. And again, I could click on this and I can get more assistance. If I’d like to pick up from where I left off, I can click on this history icon up above, and here I can see all of my back and forth with the AI. I think this message looks pretty good, so I’ll send it off to Patti. Here I am now in Microsoft Word, and I told Patti that I would help plan the company morale event. So, I better get to it. Because I’m in a text field, again, I get this Grammarly overlay and let’s see if it could help me plan this event. I’ll click on this icon and I get this same interface again. Let’s see if it could help generate ideas for a cookie company morale event. Here I’ll click on go. And look at this. Here, I get all of these different suggestions and they’re really good. A cookie decorating competition. That sounds like fun. A cookie swap, team building activity, a cookie bake-off. These sound like a lot of fun. I’ll click on insert right down here. This has now inserted all of the different ideas into my document. And again, this gives me a really good starting place. Now, of course, I also have some ideas of my own that I’d like to include. Like I think it’d be fun to try to bake the world’s largest cookie. I’ll make sure to include that at the bottom. Now you’re probably thinking working at a cookie company is all fun and games, but we actually do some real work here. I’m on point to hire a safety manager for our chocolate factory tours. You know, a chocolate factory can be a really dangerous place. I’m not quite satisfied with this message. I think I can make it better. I’ll highlight all of this text and I get this Grammarly overlay again when I highlight the text. Let’s click on this icon to see how I can improve it. Right here, it’s now analyzing all of my text and here I have some different options. Maybe let’s add some emojis. Maybe that’ll really help it stand out in the LinkedIn feed and look at that. It understands the context of what I’m typing and it inserts the appropriate emoji. That’s pretty cute, and I think that will attract some attention. Now, of course, this is going on social media, so it needs some hashtags. Why don’t we add some hashtags to this and see what it comes up with? Look at that safety manager, chocolate factory, safety first. This looks really solid. The one thing I’m not quite satisfied with though, is it doesn’t look like a typical job posting that you might find on LinkedIn. So, let’s actually ask it to maybe turn it into a job posting. Here, I’ll click on go and let’s see what it comes up with. So, I’ve told it that I need a safety manager and here it’s now writing a job posting for me. It’s talking about some of the responsibilities, safety in the workplace. Let’s try rephrasing and see what else it comes up with. Let’s try another iteration of this. Ooh, I like this better. I like the bullet points. I think that organizes it a little better. Now I think this looks really solid, so let’s click on insert. And this will now place it into my LinkedIn post right here. And I think that looks really good. It’s a really good starting position. I’ll probably come in here and make a few tweaks, just to make sure it matches our company. But overall, this looks really good. Along with using Grammarly in your favorite apps, you can also use it directly on the Grammarly website. Right here, I’ll click on a new document and this drops me into the Grammarly document editor. I’ll paste in some marketing copy for the Kevin Cookie Company. Here, I can set goals for this communication. Now, because it is marketing copy, I want it to be casual, convincing. The audience will probably be general and let’s go with informal for formality and then click on done. And right here, I see all sorts of different suggestions to improve my writing. I could click on that and that’ll implement the change. Over on the right-hand side, I can see my document’s overall score. I haven’t gone through and made all these changes yet, so currently I have a 94, but here I get some stats about my document. Also, like we’ve been seeing throughout this video, you also have access to the AI tools. When I click on this, here I can make different changes to my document. Now I’m not entirely happy with the way this marketing copy sounds, so let’s see if they have any ideas for improvement. I’ll click on this. And look at that! Here, I get a bulleted list of different ways that I can improve this text. I think they all sound good and it’s worth taking some time to incorporate some of these changes. Lastly, I also want a title for this text. So let me see if Grammarly can help with that. I’ll enter and write a title for this text and let’s see what it comes back with. Ooh, that sounds really good. Thanks Grammarly. Of course, I’m not always working at my desk, and one of the great things about Grammarly is I can also take it with me. Here I’m composing a message to send to Patti. And right here, I see the Grammarly logo, and when I click on that, it’ll give me suggestions to improve my text on my phone. And here, if I go all the way over, it’ll also evaluate how my message sounds to readers. Not only does Grammarly help me as I’m writing messages, it can also help me compose the message. Within the Grammarly app, I’ll click on the speak icon. Compose a message to Patti letting her know that I have finished planning the morale event. And look at that. I can now copy this text and send it off while on the go. All right. Well, those were just a few examples of how you can use Grammarly to become a much more effective communicator. And again, Grammarly is completely free to get started with, so you might as well give it a try. Remember, click on the link down below in the description and you can get started.
