hi everyone kevin here today i want to show you how you can remove the background from a pre-recorded video maybe you recorded a video and you found out that you forgot your green screen or maybe you just don’t like the background and you’d rather put something else in place of it for example here i am now at the beach i took my boring office that i was sitting in and here i am at the beach now but oh no i’ve got this pale white skin i don’t want to get sunburned oh here i am now back in my office it’s pretty easy to swap out a background and we’re going to use free tools to pull this off we’re going to use obs together with zoom to do this your video can be any length it can be any size there are no limitations and there are no watermarks you can use this for anything let’s jump on the pc and let’s start swapping out some backgrounds to remove the background from a video i mentioned in the introduction that we need two pieces of free software to be able to pull this off the first one is obs studio you can get this at the website obsproject.com i’ve also included a link down below in the description you could simply click on that once you land on obs studio choose your operating system and then run through the download and installation process next the second piece of software is zoom and yes you heard that right you probably know of zoom as the video conferencing application and you might use it at work or school but it also turns out that it has fantastic background removal so we can use zoom to get rid of our background on a video that maybe we pre-recorded to be able to use zoom head to the website zoom.us once you land on the website set up a free account once you set up a free account you can head to the following website zoom dot u s forward slash support forward slash download i also have a link in the description you can click on that and that’ll kick off an exe download go ahead install zoom okay you should now have both applications installed as a next step navigate to where you have the video file where you want to remove the background once you find your file double click on it and bring it to full screen you might recognize this video because this is the intro of this video i’m going to take this and all replace this background with that beach image that we saw in the introduction next open up obs if you’ve never used obs before and you’re curious about how all you can use obs i’ve covered this in a previous video where i’ll walk through all of the different capabilities of obs i’ve included a link to that video in the description once you have obs open we want to take this video in the background and we want to add it to our scene in obs to do that i already have a default scene set up and right down here i don’t currently have any sources i’ll click on this plus icon and i’ll go to window capture i’ll leave the default name and click on ok right here i see all of my different windows and here i see the vlc media player this is the media player that i’m using to play this video clip and back but you could be using any other media player as well simply select it on this list i’ll select vlc right down here for capture method i’ll switch it to windows graphics capture and here now i see my video from the video player right down here there’s an option to capture the cursor i don’t need to capture the cursor so i’ll uncheck that and then click on ok i now see my video file in obs but it doesn’t currently use up the full scene so here i’ll right click on the source and i can resize the output this way it’ll fill up the entire space so right now the video that i have open in my media player is showing up in obs next let’s click on start virtual camera by starting a virtual camera this will send the feed from obs and we’re going to send it to zoom and we’ll use zoom to remove the background next open up the zoom app and on the main screen click on new meeting now don’t worry we’re not meeting with anyone today we’re simply going to use the background removal tool next you’ll see a join audio prompt i’ll just join with my computer audio i’m now in the zoom meeting but we don’t yet see anything if i hover my mouse over i’ll see all of my different meeting controls on the bottom right down here i see the option to start video before we start the video let’s click on this up carrot and here we can choose what camera we want to use you should now see an option in this list called the obs virtual camera select that as your camera and then start the video right now i see myself this is the scene from obs and it’s being taken from obs and now it’s being sent over to zoom but i still see this office background and i want to get rid of that and this is where we can use zoom’s capabilities to get rid of this background once again when we hover over in zoom let’s go right back down to the carrot and right here within this menu there’s the option to choose a virtual background let’s select this this opens up the background and filters and here now i can choose a background to apply so i could go with san francisco and i’m now placed in front of the bridge or here maybe i want to be sitting in grass i guess honey i shrunk the kid or here i’m in earth now i’m elon musk or here’s that beach scene that i was talking about where i’m now sitting at the beach i’m not currently moving because i need to play the video but that just gives you a preview of what this is going to look like also down below you can mirror your image so you can get your orientation exactly how you want it to appear now funny enough i could even click on this plus icon and i could add an additional image or even my own video files so i can replace this background with whatever i want and here if i click on add image i can even throw in a green screen image in back of me so look at that i’m using zoom to place a green screen behind me and i’ve effectively removed the background but once again i want to show this with me sitting in front of the beach so i’ll select this beach background now this is a little outside of the scope of today’s tutorial but you can also apply zoom’s different studio effects when i click on studio effects here we see all these different effects that i can use i can put on some bigger eyebrows or maybe here let’s go with the dark eyebrows and i could throw some facial hair on as well so not only can you change the background but you can also change other aspects of this here i’ll turn it off for now because i don’t want to mess with my facial hair also if i click on video filters i can throw on any one of these video filters so not only can i change my background but i can also add some other fun elements to my video now right now all this looks good so i’ll just turn this off for now and i’ll stick with this virtual background all of this now looks good so i’m going to click on the x up here and this will bring me back to the zoom main screen now within zoom i’m going to expand this so it uses up the full screen that looks pretty good now so we now have everything ready to go here i see my image i’ve replaced the background everything looks great and now i just want to save this video that i see right here but to do that we need to once again open up obs and we’ll use a second instance of obs to record this new video file and you can open up multiple instances of obs here i have my taskbar on the bottom and here you can see the obs icon i’ll right click on this and when you right click on it you’ll see obs studio if you click on this this will launch another instance now here tells me that hey you have obs already running do you want to launch it again and yes i want to have another copy of obs so i’ll click on launch anyway i now have my second instance of obs open and here i want to use obs to record the output of zoom so let’s add a new scene this original scene 2 was used to send the video file to zoom and let’s click on the plus icon down here and here i’m going to call this record zoom next click on ok now that we’ve added the new scene we need to add a source here click on the plus icon and click on window capture i’ll just leave the default name and then click on ok here again let’s select the window that we want to capture now previously we were capturing the video file except this time let’s select the zoom meeting here i’ll select zoom for the capture method i’ll select windows graphics capture and look at that that i can now see my video with the replaced background here too i’ll turn off capture cursor and then click on ok i want to make a few more tweaks before i start recording this right now i see some black bars on the side i also see the name nester wilk i don’t want any of these zoom artifacts appearing i can click on this red rectangle and i can expand my video just a little bit so it fills up the entire frame here i’ll expand it as well so you don’t see anything from zoom so the video is going to be a little bit zoomed in but here you’ll only see the video and no one will have any idea that it came from zoom also before we start recording our video i also want to make sure that i don’t capture my microphone i also i only want to include the audio from the video playing so this way as i swap out the background i also get all of my audio so right down here in the audio mixer i’ll turn off my microphone by clicking on this icon my desktop audio is still turned on so that’s perfect i am now all ready to start recording my video with the new background here within obs i can go over and click on start recording i’m going to go right back down to my video clip and here i’ll click on the play icon hi everyone kevin here today i want to show you how you can remove the back here i’ll stop playing it and i’ll go back into obs and then i’ll stop recording to be able to view your new video file go up to the file menu and then click on show recordings this now opens up file explorer and i can see my new video clip here that includes me with the replaced background here i could double click in it to see how it turned out hi everyone kevin
