I don’t think people fully appreciate what it’s like to live in a communist or authoritarian regime um you couldn’t uh switch jobs without permission right you had everything prescribed in terms of how much you could make you know what you could do what you couldn’t do where you could live uh it was you know very little personal choice and freedom and so my parents really wanted to uh you know have a different life
