my first interaction with Beetlejuice was at a Halloween party when I was like six and I was dressed up as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz and I saw this drunk guy in his 40s with like bleeding makeup and it terrified me I had a nightmare about that man like a recurring nightmare that’s how I remember Beetlejuice did not want to watch the movie and then when I was like 9 or 10 I finally saw the movie and I thought oh I really like this like it’s not that scary did the nightmares then disappear yes is that all Michael Keon cured my insomnia I was the audience when that movie when Beetlejuice came out and it was the first time I had seen sort of what I was you we’re the same age I saw something I was like oh my God I relate to this teenager was the first time I’d seen that kind of you know misanthropic youth when Justin I was so thrilled when he said yes when he came on because I was really trying to figure out like trying to figure out where Lydia was like I never pictured her in a relationship it really helped like inform where she was in her life you know my mom was a single mom and and I was kind of referencing a few of her like boyfriends that she would bring around that were they’re always a little tun like hey come on what’s up dude give me a hug that’s what made me laugh you know was just kind of people who are codependent and kind of trying to ingratiate themselves into a family that doesn’t really want them something that I think is really incred uh incredible about this family of women is that they’re all so self assured and so opinionated and sure of who they are that it’s very clear that astd has a different path set for herself or you know she knows where she wants to go and it’s nowhere near where dilia or Lydia ever went I think dilia is definitely grown and softened but the the one thing’s never changed is her just belief in her own artistic talent that no one else seems to recognize I have a wonderful big gallery show in this movie and I’m sure my husband paid for it to me the is interesting because she has a duality I mean she’s scary but also funny and she’s a metaphor of life because we all have emotional scars and she’s full of scars but she’s strong and she’s coming back I think because everyone is so in their own head and you know so insecure and so you know dealing with themselves that you know it’s hard to recognize that other people are feeling that same way or I think also for like young people now and why this movie is especially good is because I think social media kind of adds a whole another layer to that um you know all of us you know leave an an event or some social interaction and go oh man what was I thinking I sounded so stupid you know so I think there’s um you know people just want to feel seen and I think that’s really hard
