two decades after a thief stole the iconic ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz the shoes are now up for auction Heritage auctions received the slippers from Michael Shaw the memorabilia collector who originally owned the footware at the heart of the Beloved 1939 musical Shaw initially loaned the shoes in 2005 to the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids Minnesota but that summer someone smashed through a display case and stole the slippers thinking they had real Jewels their whereabouts remain a mystery until the FBI recovered them in 2018 these are very very special very legendary and very very rare in a lot of ways not only just that they’re still with us after 80 years and Judy wore them herself but the fact they’re in such good shape the fact that uh they were gone and now they’re recovered you’ve heard the word magic but it was almost if the shoes started to gleam when I saw them returned uh to the spotl it was like they were saying thank you thank you thank you
