Russia Returns Bodies of Ukrainian POWs without Internal Organs During Exchanges, Relatives of Captives Say

In a disturbing development, relatives of Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) have alleged that Russia has been returning the bodies of their loved ones without internal organs during prisoner exchanges. The claims have sparked outrage and demands for accountability from Ukraine and the international community.

According to reports, Russian authorities have been returning the bodies of Ukrainian POWs to their families in exchange for Russian prisoners held by Ukraine. However, the bodies have been missing vital organs, including hearts, livers, and kidneys, sparking concerns about the possibility of organ harvesting.

The allegations have been corroborated by multiple sources, including the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and human rights organizations. In a statement, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense said, "We have received reports from the families of Ukrainian POWs that the bodies returned by Russia are missing internal organs. This is a clear violation of human rights and international humanitarian law."

One family, whose son was captured by Russian forces in April, said they received the body of their loved one back in August, but it was missing its heart. "We were told that our son had died of natural causes, but we knew something was wrong," said the mother. "When we opened the coffin, we were shocked to see that his heart was missing. We are still trying to come to terms with what happened to our son’s body."

Another family, whose father was captured in July, said they received his body back in September, but it was missing its liver. "We were told that our father had died of a liver disease, but we knew that wasn’t true," said the son. "When we opened the coffin, we saw that his liver was gone. We are still trying to understand why Russia would do this to our family."

The allegations have sparked widespread outrage and demands for accountability from Ukraine and the international community. The Ukrainian government has called on Russia to explain the circumstances surrounding the return of the bodies and to provide compensation to the affected families.

The United Nations has also condemned the allegations, saying that any violation of human rights and international humanitarian law is unacceptable. "The UN is deeply concerned about the reports of missing organs from the bodies of Ukrainian POWs returned by Russia," said a spokesperson. "We urge Russia to provide a full explanation and to take immediate action to prevent such violations in the future."

The allegations have also sparked concerns about the treatment of Ukrainian POWs in Russian custody. Human rights organizations have long raised concerns about the mistreatment of Ukrainian prisoners, including reports of torture, beatings, and forced labor.

In response to the allegations, Russia has denied any wrongdoing, saying that the bodies of Ukrainian POWs are being returned in accordance with international law. However, the lack of transparency and accountability has only added to the outrage and demands for action.

As the situation continues to unfold, the families of Ukrainian POWs are left to grieve and seek answers about the fate of their loved ones. The allegations of organ harvesting and the mistreatment of Ukrainian POWs have sparked a global outcry, and it is imperative that Russia takes immediate action to address these concerns and ensure the safety and dignity of all prisoners in its custody.
