lessons from the Bible can now be taught in Texas Public Schools the state’s Board of Education approved the new curriculum for grades K through 5 it’s called Blue Bonnet learning and is one of several proposals across the country to incorporate more religious teachings it’s a heated two-sided debate that is testing the boundaries of religion in public schools it’s not the job of public schools to be indoctrinating young children through the teaching of Bible stories when they should be teaching reading and language arts Texas public schools are not Christian Sunday schools on the other side supporters argue that this will help students understand the influence of the Bible in Western literature the Bible has had the most influence on Western literature and Western Civilization more than any other religion there’s so many required readings that for high school and college that come from the Bible as well such as Paradise loss or Dante’s Inferno the curriculum in Texas is optional and schools that participate will get extra funding
