Donald Trump is going back to court but this time he’s selecting the judges during his first term in office Trump was able to reshape the Judiciary with multiple right-leaning judges now with his second term he’ll be able to continue what he did with his first reshaping the Judiciary in particular with the federal appeals courts Shifting the balance of these appeals courts is a crucial Initiative for any president as their rulings are the final word in some of the most important social and fiscal issues of the day including Reproductive Rights Financial regulations and antitrust disputes there are currently only two vacancies on those courts but over the coming presidential term dozens of Judges will become eligible to retire which could present Trump with the chance to shift the partisan balance of the historically liberal ninth circuit in San Francisco and two courts more recently led by Democratic appointees the 10th circuit in Denver and the fourth circuit in Richmond Virginia Trump could also continue to cement his stamp on the US Supreme Court if two other justices retire Samuel Alo and Clarence Thomas federal judges serve for life meaning that once these judges are in place they’ll be there for decades to come
