what’s happening with the criminal cases against Donald Trump on May 30th Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts in his hush money trial in New York becoming the first former US president convicted of a crime on July 1st the US Supreme Court issued a landmark ruling in Trump’s criminal case in Washington over his effort to overturn the result of the 2020 election the Court ruled for the first time that former presidents have the presumption of immunity from criminal charges over so-called official acts in the White House that undermined some of the key allegations and evidence in the indictment the Supreme Court ruling also put Trump’s hush money verdict in limbo he has asked a judge to toss out the verdict arguing the trial was tainted by testimony and other evidence that wouldn’t have been allowed under the new standard on presidential Immunity on July 15th Trump got another win when his criminal case for allegedly mishandling classified documents was tossed out by a federal judge he appointed in Florida though special counsel Jack Smith is appealing the decision and on August 27th the special Council filed an updated indictment against Trump in the election interference case the new indictment features the same four charges accusing Trump of conspiring to defraud voters but the case has been narrowed to address the Supreme Court’s new standard on immunity meanwhile State charges against Trump in Georgia relating to the 2020 election have been on hold amid controversy over the District Attorney’s conduct in that case now perhaps the biggest development is just weeks away Trump is due to be sentenced September 18th in Manhattan in the hush money case Trump is awaiting a ruling though on his last ditch request to delay the sentencing until after the November 5th election sure
