play-rounded-fill

did you know cockatoos use tools in fact
researchers at the University of
Veterinary Medicine Vienna found that
gothin’s cockatoos can both use and
transport the tools needed to snag a
tasty treat to test this they designed a
puzzle box inside are these paper
membranes behind those goes the good
stuff the cashew and the birds are left
with two objects a short pointy stick
and a long flexible probe then the
cockatoos are left to figure it out
using the short stick they break the
paper then they push the straw through
the hole to fish out the nut
mission accomplished the researchers did
this experiment several times adding
obstacles like a gap to fly over or a
ladder to climb some of the birds not
only were able to recognize the straw
and stick as a tool set but figured out
how to carry them both at the same time
to more efficiently reach their goal
this kind of behavior has only been
studied in humans and in chimpanzees
which use sticks to fish termites out of
their nests
