hi everyone kevin here today i want to show you my favorite top 15 youtube tips and tricks if you want to jump around this video feel free to use the time stamps in the description otherwise let’s jump on the pc and get started tip number one you can turn on dark theme on youtube to make the experience a little bit easier on your eyes by default the experience is turned on to light theme to change this go up to your profile picture in the top right hand corner and click on that about midway down there’s an option for appearance and here you can see that it’s set to light when you click on this you can switch it to dark theme and look at that this is a lot easier on your eyes especially when it’s getting late at night tip number two you can adjust the video playback speed of videos on youtube to adjust the playback speed simply hover over the video and you’ll see a settings gear when you click on this on this menu there’s an option for playback speed when you click on this you can adjust it so it goes slower here i’m slowing it down a little bit or you could speed it up all the way to 2x where you double the speed you can also click on playback speed and there’s the option to set a custom playback speed so here i could choose whatever speed i want so if you want to go a little faster you can set that if you want to go a little bit slower you can also set that as well now with the video playback speed you can also use shortcut keys if you press the less than symbol or shift and comma you can slow the video speed down and if you want to speed it up you use the greater than sign or you could press shift and period and that’ll speed the video up tip number three you can very easily jump between view modes also using shortcut keys now i’m sure most of you are already aware of this when you hover over a video in the bottom right hand corner you can jump between the mini player the theater mode or the full screen mode however one of the things that you might not have been aware of is when you hover over you’ll see a shortcut key associated with each of those views here for example with the mini player you’ll see an eye if i press the i key that’ll toggle to mini player view when i press it again it’ll exit for theater mode i press t and i press t again to leave it and if i want to jump into a full screen mode i press the f key and press it again to exit full screen tip number four you can also use shortcut keys to navigate throughout your video here for example if i want to pause a video i simply press the spacebar to pause and i press the spacebar again to play i can also jump forwards or backwards using my arrow keys if i press the right arrow key that’ll jump forward by 5 seconds if i press the left arrow key that jumps back by 5 seconds along with spacebar and the arrow keys you can also use the j k and l keys on your keyboard they’re all grouped together when i press the j key that’ll jump back by 10 seconds when i press the l key that’ll jump forwards by 10 seconds and when i press k that’ll also pause the video and if you press k again that’ll play the video let’s say i want to jump throughout the video i can use the number keys on my keyboard to jump to specific points of the video for example if i want to jump back to the beginning you press the zero key because that’s the zero point in the video if i press say the number five that will jump to the midpoint in the video or the fifty percent point you could press eight to jump to the eighty percent point and you get the idea you could jump to whatever point in the video that you want tip number five and this is the last one that uses shortcut keys today you can also adjust the volume of a video using shortcut keys if you want to turn the volume down simply press the down arrow key and to increase the volume press the up arrow key if you want to just mute the video altogether and you don’t want to hear any of the sound simply press the m key to mute it and press m again to toggle off mute now i’ve shown a number of different shortcut keys today an easy way to remember what shortcut keys you can use on youtube go up to your profile picture in the top right hand corner and click on that at the very bottom of that list there’s an option for keyboard shortcuts when you click on this it’ll show you a cheat sheet of all of the different shortcut keys that you can use on youtube tip number six you can get a transcript for any video on youtube and you can also use the transcript as an easy way to navigate throughout the video when you have a video playing on youtube down below there’s an ellipses or the three dots when you click on that you can open the transcript when i open the transcript up in the top right hand corner i’ll see an entire transcript of the video when i click on the different sections of the transcript that’ll jump to that section of the video tip number seven you can loop a video this is especially helpful if let’s say that you have your favorite song playing and you want to listen to it again and again and again you can do that on the video right click on it and within the menu there’s the option to loop when i select loop once you get to the very end of the video it’ll simply play again and again and again tip number eight you can very easily watch videos later if you don’t have time right now here for instance i’m watching a video on microsoft vizio and i don’t have time to watch it right now but this is an app that i want to learn how to use so i want to watch this later i don’t want to forget about this video to save it for later right underneath the video to the right there’s the option to save it when i click on save this opens up a prompt where i can save the video to a playlist youtube by default has a playlist called watch later but you can also create your own playlists when i click on this this has now added it to my watch later list back on youtube if i want to get back to my watch now list i simply click on the hamburger menu in the top left hand corner and i can see all of my playlists in this group there’s one called watch later and when i click on that here now i see my video on microsoft vizio and i could go back and watch this video you definitely don’t want to miss this one it’s a good skill to have tip number nine you can collaborate with others on playlists let’s say you have a group of friends and you all want to watch the same videos you can create a playlist so you can all contribute videos to that playlist first off you need to create a playlist to create a playlist when you’re in a video on youtube simply click on save down below and here you can create a new playlist alternatively if you already have a playlist you can save a video to that playlist once you have a playlist it’s easy to get back to it over on the left hand side you have a section for playlists i’ll click on show more and here i see a playlist that i created called awesome videos when i click on this we only see awesome videos here yes these are all very awesome videos if i click on the ellipses or the dot dot dot i can collaborate with others on this playlist when i click on collaborate this opens up a dialog where i can enable collaboration on this and if i copy this url i could share this with others and then we can all work together on this playlist tip number 10 you can share a video with others and have the video start wherever you want the video to start typically to share you’d go down below the video on the right hand side and click on share if you just copy the url as is the video will start playing at the beginning let’s say though that i want the video to start playing at the 10 minute and 6 second mark i can right click on the video and then copy the video url at the current time i can also go down and click on share and here i’ll toggle this box to start at 1006. you’ll see that it appends a t equals 606 at the end of the url this is how many seconds into the video it starts at when you’re ready to share click on copy and you can share this with anyone and it’ll start playing at that point tip number 11 and this is one of my favorites youtube offers an audio library that contains music and sound effects that you can incorporate into your videos it won’t cost you anything to do to access the audio library click on your profile picture in the top right hand corner and then go down to youtube studio once in the creator studio over on the left hand navigation scroll to the bottom to the option that says audio library once we click on this this will open up the audio library and you’ll see a ton of tracks appear you have all sorts of genres all sorts of moods from all different artists youtube is constantly adding more songs to the audio library here we see that a whole bunch of songs were added in october 2020. if you want to find let’s say a specific song that’ll match your video you can click up above and you can search based on genre mood duration so let’s click on mood as an example let’s say i want to find dramatic sounding songs i can check this box and then click on apply here now i’ll see a whole bunch of dramatic songs that i can incorporate into my videos i’m not just limited to music i can also click into sound effects and here i’ll see a whole bunch of sound effects that i can also use in my videos it’s a very valuable resource as you’re pulling together videos tip number 12 youtube offers a watch history to make it easy to get back to videos that you might want to watch again a lot of times i want to show someone a video that i watched and i just can’t remember the name to get to your watch history on youtube click on the hamburger menu in the top left hand corner on the left hand side you’ll see an option for history when you click on history you have all sorts of different histories that you can look at you can look at your watch history your search history your comment your community and your live chat history and best of all let’s say for example maybe you’ve been watching a few too many kevin videos you could also clear your watch history by clicking on clear all once you clear it it’ll disappear from your history tip number 13 you can search within a specific youtube channel up on youtube you have a search field and this by default searches across all videos and all channels on youtube but sometimes you might want to just scope your search a little bit more when you navigate to a channel you’ll see a magnifying glass when you click on this this allows you to search just within that channel for example let’s say i want to search for word when i hit enter this will search for all videos related to word on my channel tip number 14 youtube has additional experiences that are optimized for listening to music or for kids viewing on youtube to access these in the top right hand corner click on the waffle menu and then you can click into youtube music or youtube kids the youtube music experience is optimized for listening to music not only do you get the music video you could set up playlists and you could even look at the lyrics youtube kids cuts out a lot of the advertisements and it also filters it down to kid-friendly content if you have a child who’s watching a lot of youtube videos this is the preferred experience for them tip number 15 i can take my youtube videos with me wherever i go using the picture in picture chrome extension when i’m on youtube you simply press the alt and p key and that’ll pop the video out into its own separate player i can adjust the size to make it larger or smaller here i’m on my desktop and the video continues to play it stays on top regardless of what application i have open in the background to put the video back onto youtube i simply hover over and i could pop it back into youtube it’s easy to add this functionality to your web browser simply head to the url included in the description and then you can add this extension to your chromium browser that wraps up our top 15 tips and tricks but since you made it to the end of this video i wanted to throw in one extra bonus tip is it the most useful probably not but it’s a fun easter egg in the experience while you’re in youtube and you have a video playing you’ll see the progress bar on the bottom and it uses the youtube red color while a video is playing simply type in awesome and then you’ll get the progress bar to flash a rainbow color if you type in awesome again it’ll turn it off that could be a neat little prank you play on a friend and it’ll get their player to start acting up alright well that covers my favorite top 15 tips and tricks on youtube and if you stuck around until the end you got 16. if you enjoyed this video and you
